Beach Bumming and Cleaning

Author: Adam
Location: Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos
Today, we had an unusually late morning, even after seven. Our mission involved coordinating with local school kids to clean up a beach. And what a beach it was! It was one of, if not the most beautiful sandy beach that I have ever seen. The waves rolled in incessantly and with a crash that was just loud enough to be relaxing while we cleaned up the sandy strand... of sand. The sand was very fine and hard due to the tide coming in right all the way to the first plants. The water was quite shallow and the crests of the waves were just off the shore. Once the trash was sequestered in our bags, we played hopscotch and pictionary with the sand. Then we half buried someone in sand. We left and had skewered seafood or grilled octopus, both of which were very good, exquisite, some might say if they were so inclined. Following our feast, we embarked on what seemed to be an exodus across the island in search of a fissure in which a pool of refreshing water awaited us. Along the way, we picked up more trash and after swimming for about an hour and a half we returned. We shopped for a little and ate dinner, at which we had awesome seafood. Several of us, including myself, turned the centerpieces from pretty cups of flowers and water into beautification for our hair. After which we planned a bank heist.
