San Cristobal Adventures

Author: Tierney
Location: San Cristobal Island and Vicinity
We started our day with a 6:00AM wake up from our leader of the day, and prepared for a boat ride around Kicker Rock, which is known for it's large frigate population. After, we all ate breakfast and headed out to Isla Lobos, or "Sea Lion Island," and saw the beaches and rocks there completely covered in sea lions. We were extremely lucky, and also came across some frigates and blue-footed babies with their young. A ton of the sea lions there were pups, and many were "bulls-in-training," and after hiking over a bunch of lava rocks we headed back to our boat, The Amigo, to grab our snorkel gear to head out for our last swim.

As we took the dingy out back toward Isla Lobos, we found a sea turtle and jumped right in to follow him. The turtles are really docile here, and it's almost as if we were invisible! We also came across a couple blowfish, and uncovered a ton of sand dollars from beneath the sandy bottom. As everything seemed to be calming down, we attracted a couple sea lions pups who were eager to play with us. It was definitely one of our best snorkels.

We spent the end of our day on San Cristobal Island, where we saw the Interpretation Center, which was a museum with tons of information about the island and the creatures that once inspired Darwin. We then headed into town to shop around a buy souvenirs for our friends and family back home :).
