Day 16
Author: Jordan G.
Location: West End, Tortola
Today as soon as everyone woke up some of us went wakeboarding, others worked on rescue dives, and afer we ate. Once breakfast was done we sailed to Road Town and shopped around local stores, grabbed lunch, and walked around. Afterwards we sailed for a while and headed towards where we'd stay the night. While the chefs were cooking we played a card game. We just finished dinner and now I smell funfetti cake so I suppose that's next.

Location: West End, Tortola
This morning we had our big race against all the other boats. Patty J. came first, and we came in second. Then, while on our way to Tortola, we cleaned up the remaining food and threw it overboard. When we docked we began to clean our cabins. After we had lunch we continued to clean the boat and helped with other aspects of the program, such as packing up fins and cleaning dinghies. Afer we spent some time on shore.

We woke up today at a late 7:15 and jumped into cereal and oatmeal with a breakfast visitor. Then after the skipper's meeting we tacked at Road Town to Peter Island and came in fifth (not last) in the race. After the race we went straight into packing :-( and intense boat cleanup aka scrubbing everything clean and emptying trash and junk from cabinets and a whole bunch of Mr. Clean and soft scrub.

Author: Ollie M.
Location: West End, Tortola
Having started the day off with what cereal we had left, we soon got our game faces off and prepared for the race, led by myself and Eric, clad in white garments from head to toe, including non-rubbed in sunscreen in honor of E-rock (Eric). Maya was first to take the helm, leading us toward the start of the race, before joining the remainder of the Cedar crew sitting on the high side. Soon after the race was underway, with Alex and Sammy tending the main sheet, myself and Elliot on the jib, and Kyle on the helm. Having led for the majority of the first leg, Cedar was passed by two boats. Finally passing the line taking bronze, we started to clear out and clean Cedar, which was a lot harder than it sounds, finishing up in the early afternoon. We now have some time to spend in West End before preparing for the BBQ.

Location: West End, Tortola
Today was our final day in the BVI. We began our day as usual, with loud 80s music anda colorful breakfast of various cereals. Next we sailed to a nearby dive site called the Indians and took a 30 minute morning dive. For our last dive of the trip the water was especially clear and blue, and the fish were especially friendly and abundant. It was amazing, and the trip has been so wonderful! Side note: apart from the beautiful morning dive the rest of the day consisted of cleaning the entire boat.

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
There was a storm last night and the wind was really strong. In the morning we kneeboarded (the wind and waves made skiing and boarding impossible) and we got some nice air off waves. Then we went over to Road Town and the waves in the channel were huge. We sailed with a reefed jib and still hit intense speeds. In Road Town we either had lunch at the marina restaurant or at a little Chinese restaurant. We motorsailled to the Bight. We then took an awesome salt water shower.

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
We were awoken to wakeboard and waterski and perhaps the choppiest day of the trip so far. We waited patiently for breakfast for what must have been close to two hours, don't get me wrong the french toast was delicious, but the anticipation made it the best breakfast so far. We made our sail to Road Town at 10am and arrived at 11:45am. We had an hour and thirty minutes on shore, which was not near enough time to enjoy the beautiful city. We departed to our current location, arriving at 4:30pm. Shortly after we had our daily shower and dinner of franks and beans.

Upon arrival we began the monumental task of "Boat Appreciation." As I write it is still in progress. Everyone is busy carrying things, scrubbing things, washing the boat, etc. Once we have finished this we will have free time until dinner, and then we spend our last night together, as tomorrow we all go our separate ways.

We woke up yet again to a Shenanigans in which we prepared for and enabled ourselves to save all the divers. We grabbed breakfast and sailed to the wreck of the Fearless which we then dove. After that we sailed to Road Town where we had lunch and a variety of snacks. After Road Town we had a wild sail to the Bight. We decided to sail all the way into the bay so we had to tack about seven times. We then had Mike over for dinner of black beans and hot dogs. After that we stayed up rather later writing cards for each other. Afer a night shower and funfetti we hit the hay.

Day 14
Author: Unknown
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning we woke up to "Shenanigans!!," a term we use in a rescue simulation. We were awoken by two staff members screaming "Ahh I'm a panicked diver!!! I'm panicking!" After the divers had been "rescued" we ate breakfast and sailed to Salt/Cooper Island. There we dove twice at the wrecks the Beta and the kissing wrecks. Many of us agreed that it was one of the coolest sites of the trip. After lunch we then sailed back to Peter Island. Here we all hung around and swam in the perfectly clear water. Dinner was thanksgiving night, my favorite meal at AQ. After dinner we all took tests or filled out paperwork for our certifications. Today was yet another great day of this great trip that we sadly have to say goodbye to in a few short days.

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we ate our breakfast on the way to the Rhone dive. After diving we spent two hours on Patty J. taking our IYT tests, and just hanging out. After a lunch of sandwiches Nick took us to Salt Island, where we hiked up a giant hill and saw an amazing sight, pink salt beds and the Caribbean, a sight not able to be caught on camera but don't worry to all the parents out there, because we got a great group picture! After we got back to the beach we paid our respects to the graves of the people on Salt Island and of the survivors of the Rhone wreck. Then, because the temperature was an average of 37 degrees, everyone raced for the water for a quick cool down. After we got back to the boats we sailed back to Great Harbor and had an awesome diving competition off the side of the boat. It coincided with shower time. Dinner was especially delicious, summertime thanksgiving. Since it was Roy's birthday we made him a chocolate cake and everyone got a huge piece. Happy 14th birthday Roy! Later we had a Lifeworks chat and got our Turk's Heads burned. Oh, and Matt took on the challenge of trying to eat a spoonful of cinnamon. He really didn't win. Only two more days left, see you saturday, or sunday in Sven's case.

This morning started with slips of paper. The skippers and skippers of the day chose positions for the race to West End. Tortola hosted another great day for sailing. Cedar ended up in third, but with a cleaning of the hull can easily outpace any other ship in our flotilla. Our afternoon, starting with lunch, was a great buffet at West End's port at Pusser's. After leaving the dock the crew powered through the sailing practical with ease. For the evening squeeze we reflected on our AQ experience.

Today we woke up and had scrambled eggs and pancakes. It was great. We went on a sweet dive on a fun, deep wreck that we all got to explore inside and out. After that we had a long and rough sail to Peter Island, where we swam, dove, and wakeboarded a lot. After that we ate a quick lunch. The Neptunes then went turtle tagging while the Rescues had a scenario. For dinner we had a great Mexican fajita night. We then got to go on an optional night dive on our own, without any instructor. After we were welcomed onboard with delicious brownies cooked by our wonderful chef, Blair. We then relaxed until we all went to bed.

Today the skippers from each boat met to prepare for the race, then, after we returned to our boats, we all set off in a massive race. The race was about 45 minutes long and for the entire race we partied and danced to Guns n Roses (while sailing). Although we got 4th place out of six, we had fun in the race. For lunch we docked in Soper's Hole. After leaving port we sailed for a while, while practicing man overboards. Before dinner, some of the Ninja Squad X, Ninja Squad Leader (David), and Ninja 2 (Eric) practiced climbing the anchor chain on the ship. Dinner was an amazing Mexican taco night!

Our boat, Patt J., quickly got in the lead and finished first place! It was really fun. It was also funny that our whole boat dressed up like ninjas. In West End, Tortola, we walked around port for about two and a half hours. We ate lunch, bought ice cream, tshirts, and candy. Afterwards wesailed to Peter Island and most of us took our practical sailing test. Overall it was a really fun day.

Afterwards wesailed to Peter Island and most of us took our practical sailing test. Overall it was a really fun day.

Day 13
Author: Cyrus A.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today, on Day 13, Drew, Danae, Jared, Alex, Leah, Patrick, and Anna went to see the sunrise on Sandy Spit at 5am. The rest of the crew slept in til 7:30 and woke up to oatmeal :-). We prepared for our Pringles Cup, which was our first sail race. Unfortunately Pine came in last place, but we carried our strong spirit. We stopped at West End for lunch and spent a couple hours there. After leaving West End the shipmates went through their sailing practicals for their certifications. After the practicals we saw Ocean Star, one of ActionQuest's personal sailing vessels. After anchoring we had Mexican for dinner.

Day 13
Author: Kyle M.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning started with slips of paper. The skippers and skippers of the day chose positions for the race to West End. Tortola hosted another great day for sailing. Cedar ended up in third, but with a cleaning of the hull can easily outpace any other ship in our flotilla. Our afternoon, starting with lunch, was a great buffet at West End's port at Pusser's. After leaving the dock the crew powered through the sailing practical with ease. For the evening squeeze we reflected on our AQ experience.

Day 12
Author: Miguel
Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today we woke up and set sail to Sandy Spit. While navigation some of us slept and the others studied for the oxygen test. When we arrived at our destination the Rescues had a search and recovery dive. After that we ate delicious pasta, then we went on a fun dive in which we saw a school of huge tarpon. In the afternoon we had for dinner a delicious pasta again, but this time we got the opportunity to be with Jim and then we played a game of cards with him.

Today we sailed until we got to our dive spot. There was no wind on the way over here. The most the wind was blowing was at 11 knots and was mostly between two and eight. Our first dive was a research dive for our projects. The second was for fun and there was a cool cave and an amazing tunnel that we swam through. Then we went to the beach and after dinner Jim and three other boats came on our boat for a Lifeworks chat.

We started out with a normal rotation day and ended out with a blast. Most of us went kneeboarding and had some pretty amazing falls. Our next rotation was a sail chat where we talked about boat hulls and sea markers. After that we made a cool bracelet or anklet. A while later we went scuba diving and got our open water certification. We went sailing to an island that is not even a square mile big. P.S. the chefs were good.

Hello to all the Mums and Dads and other relatives out there reading this! We are having a great time. We woke up this morning like we do every other, to loud music too early! We quickly finished breakfast as we motored to the dive site, you could just make out our excitement under the unbrushed hair and sleepy eyes. That's because today, with the exception of David, the advanced diver, and Matt, a Quest, we all got our open water certifications! After that excitement we hopped in the dinghies so we could go to our next activity, watersports, and a chat where we talked about continuing our scuba and sailing careers. We had delicious mac and cheese for lunch (thank you Danielle!) and then went to a sail chat only to discover that Kevin had already taught us everything! Then we made bracelets, sailed a bit, achored, ate delicious chilli and brownies, and went to bed! All in all, a great day.

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
This morning, after the shipmates awoke sluggishly from their sleep, we prepared to raise the anchor, and then left for Muskmelon Bay. During that time we ate cereal for breakfast. After breakfast our group gathered for a sail chat about pursuing sailing/scuba diving. Once the chat was finished we moved on to a much anticipated activity: making Turk's Heads bracelets. We then split up into two different groups for scuba snorkeling, and then sailed to Sandy Spit.

Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
We woke up today and sailed immediately to Sommer's Beach. The Rescues then had a dive while the Dolphins went out to catch turtles while being towed underwater by a dinghy. The weather was great, including lots of sun with a nice breeze. Then some of us went on a fun dive under the boat, and then Chris took some out for a fun wakeboarding session. That night all boats went to the beach for a BBQ which turned out great. Once it got dark Jim collected everyone to play the Game of Life. On our way back Sam had to inspect us thoroughly because he did not want a single grain of sand on the boat. All in all it was another great day at sea with no injuries, no pain, and no downsides. Everyone had lots of fun, and hanging out wtih other boats on the beach was probably the highlight of the day for most people.

Next we had our Pico races; team one dominated. It was a lot of fun. After we followed up with a sail chat with Chad. Finally we went for our second to last dive; we learned new skills, even though the water was full of jellyfish. The dive was cut short, but still amazing to be there. Soon it was time for showers and then we motored to Sommer's Beach for our BBQ. The beach was the perfect place to see the sunset. We ended our day with the Game of Life and a dip in the water to get all the sand off. Overall it was a very nice day.

The game was ruined by the weather so we all went back to our boats to get dry. After a great day we were all tired and went to bed early and prepared for the next day.

Today we started out at Marina Cay. It's one of our shipmate's 14th birthday so we played Disney music at her request all morning. Today was also our last sail training day. We're now all expected to know how to sail our boats. At noon-ish we sailed to an amazing island with a beautiful beach and enormous waves. After lunch and an hour of swimming at the beach, we sailed here to Muskmelon Bay, where we'll spend the night. I'm really excited because I'm going on my second night dive! Yay!

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Today was really fun, especially because we started off with a sleep in. After a delicious breakfast of pancakes we practiced our sailing skills while sailing to Guana Island. There we got to spend some time on the beach, burying Danae, building sand sculptures, and just hanging out. Shower time flew by and before we knew it we were sailing once again. After practicing more skills and dealing with some cases of seasickness, we anchored the boat and got ready for Phoebe's birthday dinner. We had two special guests, Jim and Aaron, enjoyed dinner, birthday cake, a special phone call for Phoebe from Travis, and a very crazy cleanup session. It's been a crazy day filled with laughs and memories and now we're all ready for a nice long, cozy sleep.

We had a pretty sweet day today. We slept in til 7:30 this morning and had the pleasure of eating delicious pancakes made by Katy and myself. Next we went sailing and practiced many sailing skills we have learnt over the trip, like man overboard, etc. Next we stopped at a little rocky beach where we all hung out and explored the area. We saw how many rocks each person could fit on their shoulders. Finally we sailed to our night spot, had some delicious chilli and rice, and watched the sun set. It was a very nice and relaxing day :-)

Today we woke up to the rhythm of some great music. Then we went and dove this amazing dive site called the Chimneys. We all bought candy and souvenirs at the Pusser's store at the dock. We ended the day with an awesome Lifeworks chat.

It was very pretty and there were lots of fish to see. After diving we did some BA (boat appreciation). I got the lovely job of cleaning the head. Once our boat was clean we got underway and ate lunch. Lunch was ramen noodles which was fantastic. While cleanup was going on we took turns taking Hibiclens showeres, which feels amazing. Because we were down below some of us felt seasick. Once we arrived in Trellis Bay we all got time to go ashore. We all called home and even got a chance to go on facebook. After being shuttled back to the boat we got underway to where we are now (Marina Cay). Marina Cay is very small, only one store. We all stocked up on food and made lots of jokes. So all in all it was a fantastic day.

We woke up to the sound of Julia's ipod pounding out of the speakers. As soon as all the hammocks were stowed, I took the helm and we motored our way to a dive site called the Chimneys and started our dive rotation. My dive was extraordinary and my dive instructor was great. We saw a couple of arrow crabs and some sweet cleaner shrimp. Our boat is the dive boat so it was a pretty busy day. After the dive was over I returned to my post on the helm and we went on a port tour! Our day ended at Marina Cay after a meeting with Jim. Excellent dive, tour, day...

Today was a great day. We started off the morning with snorkeling and scuba diving. The snorkel was beautiful. We saw so many amazing fish and the best part was that thewaters were jellyfish free. Then we had a relaxing afternoon of sailing and had some free time at port here at Marina Cay. Just now most of the shipmates are on deck feeding a huge barracuda. We are just about to leave for a fun Lifeworks activity with Jim.

Today we woke up and were all tired from the previous night's shenanigans. After having eggs and blueberry muffins, we set up our gear to go scuba diving. After surfacing from our dive I took a nap. We probably sailed, because when I woke up we were docke at a port. Half of us went to a restaurant for lunch. The other stayed on the boat for ramen noodles. I bought a cheeseburger. After returning from our lunch we continued to sail again.

Today we began by taking our dive exam. Since we all passed we were able to go on our first open water dive. It was so cool. We saw tons of jellyfish and lots of other fish too. We came up for lunch and then headed off to Pico sailing. There was almost no wind so it was difficult to sail. We managed and capsized a few times. After that we went to mooring ball pickup practice. We all successfully got it. We returned for chicken caesar salad dinner. Tonight we have our first Lifeworks meeting.

Today was yet another amazing day in the BVI. We started our day by taking our final PADI scuba diver written exam, with mostly positive results. After that we went waterskiing and wakeboarding. Everyone has already improved at these since the first day. Lunch was after that, followed by man overboard (MOB) practice. Finally, to finish our day, we either went on a snorkel or our first open water dive. I went on the dive and it was so much fun. We saw so many cool things. Overally this was another great day down here. Later.

Today we woke up and had an extremely satisfying breakfast consisting of eggs, muffins, and bacon. We went on to start our glorious rotation day with man overboard drills, in which we saved our fender several times from drowning. Then the Quests went snorkeling while everyone else went scuba diving. We finished off the rotation day with some waterskiing and wakeboarding, which was very exciting because of how much everybody has improved in this area. Anway, Jim is coming for dinner so I need to end this and help clean up!

Author: Alayna L.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
We slept in a little later than usual and set sail to Great Harbor, Peter Island. Our rescue group did some skills above and below the water, practicing emergency ascents and resuscitating unconscious divers. We came back and enjoyed a grilled cheese lunch. We snorkeled and swam until we had to gear up for a search and recovry dive. Most of the groups came up with their prize after only 10-20 minutes. Sam and I have endured some communication errors and ended up coming up unsuccessfully after 30 minutes. We came back and ate dinner until the Neptunes had to gear up for their night dive.

Today, although the weather was partly overcast, it was a good day for sailing with calm waters. We had pancakes at breakfast and started sailing towards our dive site straight after. We sailed for approximately three hours at seven knots. Once at the dive site we went to do a photo dive, testing the cameras. Later we snorkeled for the night dive, which went well and the glow sticks from the tanks of the divers look amazing.

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today we sailed and learned what to do if there is a man overboard, and scuba skills. Man overboards was fun because we learned what to do and how to react to a situation where someone falls overboard. Scuba skills was probably the best scuba because they were interesting and we understood them better.

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today we had a dive lesson in the morning. When it was over we headed to the dinghies so we could waterski/wakeboard/kneeboard. Maddie was on the skis for a pretty long time. Then Bryan and Matt had some sick wipeouts. When everyone was done we got on a boat and did some man overboard practice. We used the fender. After throwing it overboard 3-4 times, doing mulitple flybys and running it over twice, my newly certified CPR failed to revive it. P.S. no fenders were harmed during the practice.

Today was a super fun day (just like every day but still). First thing in the morning the Picos were waiting for us, and although most of us capsized we still all had a blast. Next rotation we were able to learn to pick up mooring balls that are in the water, and we each dominated that sailing skill. Though we almost lost the hook to actually get the mooring ball, we still got it :-) After lunch it was the last confined water scuba dive. We had to master the rest of our skills but at the same tie we were able to spot an octopus, a moon jelly, and a huge barracuda!! Ok, well gotta go, it's Mexican night tonight!

Today we woke up and moved our boat to a dive spot close by called Mountain Point. The four divemasters had to dive and make a dive map of the lcoation. The map had a lot of details that could help divers out. There were many caves that we went in and looked around. The whole day wa sunny and I think it was the hottest day so far. Then the divemasters led open water divers on the same dive as we dove before. The open water divers went on a morning dive.

After another day of outstanding wit and good humor from the Brits, we were presented by a delightful meal of Mexican food from the boat. In general the day was extremely enjoyable, with Pico sailing and snorkeling. The snorkel provided sights of outstanding beauty and a variety of rare species. All the Quests thoroughly enjoyed the experience and even invented a new sport- jellyfish dodging. The Puffer fish, Trumpet fish, Parrot fish, sea urchin, and many others really did make the experience unique, despite the presence of moon jellies. Moving on, the day was enhanced by calm seas. Finally, as I write this it has started to rain and have now been surrounded by a group of noisy shipmates. Therefore, I am now finishing the days log and I look forward to being skipper once again (everyone does what you tell them to).

After that we went back to the boat and sailed to the Chikuzen wreck. It was a very big wreck with lots of fish and cool coral. Then we sailed back to Mountain Point where we had an improvised party.

Everyone was pretty tired from the beach party the night before, but still woke up early to sail from Vixen Point to here. Everybody then rotated between scuba diving (last confined water dive for Vegas!), sailing Picos, and mooring ball practice, with a PB+J lunch in between. A very strange but memorable hour went by before, involving the word "cupcake" way too many times. Jim came to eat dinner with us on Mexican night, and the food was delicious. We then all played a very interesting game of cards before some went for a scuba night dive and the rest to a scuba lesson. This was a quite relaxed but interesting day :-)

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
We started the day by finishing the dive chat from the night before. After that we sailed around doing a couple of drills, including a man overboard drill with the fender named Timmy. Then we pulled into port and stocked up on cookies. Then we attempted an amphibious landing on Richard Branson's island, Necker Island. Sadly we failed to infiltrate the island. We also did a flyby of the Corona island. As we sailed back, not only did we invent code words for sailing maneuvers, but we also rocked to loud music as we cruised back to the anchorage. We ended the night with a BBQ on the beach.
